Meshu + Sabina’s Newborn Session

There is something about the newborn stage that feels both endless and impossibly short.

In the beginning, your whole world seems to slow down around this tiny new person. The sleepy stretches, the little noises, the way they curl perfectly against your chest. And then, somehow, almost overnight, they begin to change.

For Meshu and Sabina, this session was about remembering their daughter Mila exactly as she was in these first days — tiny, peaceful, and completely surrounded by love.

They Are Only This Little for So Long

There will be thousands of photographs of Mila as she grows.

First birthdays. First steps. School pictures. Family vacations. Graduations.

But she will never be this small again.

There is such a small window of time when your baby fits this perfectly into your hands. When their entire little body can be wrapped up and held against your chest. When you can study every eyelash, every tiny wrinkle and every strand of newborn hair.

One day, Meshu will look at this photograph and remember that Mila’s entire head once fit into the palm of his hand.

And one day, Sabina will look back and remember exactly how it felt to hold her daughter this close.

These are the photographs that become more valuable with time.

The Way You Loved Her From the Very Beginning

Newborn photographs aren’t only for parents.

They’re for your baby, too.

Someday, Mila will look through these photographs and see a version of her parents she doesn’t remember herself.

She’ll see the way her dad held her against his chest.

The way her mom cradled her face.

The way they instinctively leaned toward her.

And the way they looked at each other while holding the little person who had just changed their entire world.

That’s one of my favorite parts of photographing new families.

Mila may be the tiniest person in these photographs, but years from now she’ll be able to see just how much space she already occupied in her parents’ hearts.

The Details You Think You’ll Never Forget

When your baby is brand new, it’s hard to imagine ever forgetting these details.

Of course you’ll remember how tiny her hands were.

Of course you’ll remember those toes.

Of course you’ll remember the little wisps of hair across her forehead and the way her face looked when she slept.

Until one day, you realize you don’t remember them quite as clearly as you thought you would.

That’s why the detail photographs matter just as much to me as the portraits.

Because sometimes a photograph of one tiny hand tells the story better than anything else could.

Look at how tiny those fingers are.

Someday that same hand will hold theirs while crossing the street. It will color pictures, turn the pages of books, pack a backpack, hold car keys — and eventually become an adult hand.

But for this moment, it fits around just one finger.

The same goes for those impossibly tiny toes.

These are the photographs that preserve the things time changes first.

Photographs Become Memories You Can Hold

I think that’s why newborn photography feels so different from almost every other kind of photography.

You’re documenting something while it’s already disappearing.

Mila won’t remember being this little. Meshu and Sabina won’t remember every detail of these sleep-deprived, love-filled first weeks forever.

But they’ll have photographs.

Photographs of her newborn hair.

Her tiny eyelashes.

Her button nose.

Her little hands tucked beneath her chin.

And photographs that show just how small she once was.

Years from now, when Mila is no longer a baby, these images won’t simply show her what she looked like.

They’ll show her what it looked like to be loved from the very beginning.

Welcome to the world, sweet Mila.

You are only this little once.

And what a privilege it was to preserve it.
